Sierra Madre Trivia

One of the mountain resorts of the late 19th century, Sierra Madre California was the site of the first Mount Wilson Observatory in 1889.  The observatory was later moved, so that explains the trail but no telescope.  The city is home to to the world’s largest flowering plant, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.  The Sierra Madre Wistaria was casually planted at a home in 1894 and now covers 1 acre and is estimated to weigh 250 tons.  Finally, did you know that the city encompasses 69 traffic lights to help keep its 10,580 residents safe (2010 population)?
